City of Greater Bendigo 'Career Horizons' support sits within the Strategy and Growth Directorate and in the Regional Sustainable Development Department, where the Career Horizons role currently sits. Career Horizons is a program designed to support and build local regional industry and education partnerships and encourage collaborative responses to employment pathways, to retain youth in our region and to develop and reward workplace talent. The program is facilitated through an online hub listing local engagement and work experience opportunities for primary, secondary and tertiary students within the City of Greater Bendigo, Mt Alexander and Central Goldfields Shires. 

Purpose:

To formalise and streamline the student placement process at the City so that supervisors and students feel comfortable using it.  This standardised process will in time, increase uptake of successful placements and reduce the amount of inquires and follow-up tasks associated with student placements to make the process more sustainable. Assist in developing a consistent and streamlined student placement process at the City of Greater Bendigo so that supervisors and students feel comfortable using it.  This standardised process will in time, increase uptake of successful placements and reduce the amount of inquires and follow-up tasks associated with student placements to make the process more sustainable.

Typical Tasks & Duties

Key Activities:

Assist in the review and re-design policy and standardised procedures and records management conventions for student placements.
Administration of appropriate data bases and records management systems
Write internal training notes for staff using the Career Horizons system and managing students
Update the handbook for placements; write cheat sheets, instructions for documented & maintenance of Career Horizons systems
System streamlined to be self-managed and reduce duplication
Check compliance with HR best practice and employment law (Fair work)
Aligns placement tool kit with our organisation’s implementation of Project Management principles
Assist managers to manage this process, decentralising records management and local administration placements on Career Horizons – standardised cheat sheet for admin staff to manage records
Implementation of a ‘best practice’ toolkit for supervisors and their student placements
Consult with HR and City staff to gain endorsement and support for implementation
